API.SH vs the official Steam API
Valve has an official Steam Web API (api.steampowered.com) and the Steamworks documentation. You register for a Web API key with a Steam account, and it centers on game, player and stats interfaces, with store pages and reviews handled elsewhere. API.SH needs no key from Valve and puts store prices, search, reviews, Community Market listings, news, player counts and profiles behind one key and one JSON format.
Skip writing and maintaining your own Steam store, review and market scrapers, or stitching together several third-party Steam data sites: API.SH gives you one key and a fixed price per call.
Steam API questions
What Steam data can I get?+
A game's store details (/steam/v1/app), top sellers and specials (/steam/v1/featured), store search (/steam/v1/search), reviews (/steam/v1/reviews), current players (/steam/v1/players), news and patch notes (/steam/v1/news), Community Market listings (/steam/v1/market/listings) and public profiles (/steam/v1/user).
How much does the Steam API cost?+
Every Steam endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /steam/v1/app at 1 credit each.
Is there an official Steam API?+
Yes. Valve publishes the Steam Web API and the Steamworks documentation, and you get a Web API key by registering with a Steam account. It does not cover everything on the store and market pages. API.SH needs no Valve key and returns prices, reviews, search, market listings, news and player counts as JSON.
Do I need a Steam account or API key?+
No Steam account, login or Steam API key. API.SH reads public Steam pages only. No endpoint uses a login, cookies or anyone's account.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /steam/v1/app with an appid or a store link. Request examples and every parameter are in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
Is there a Steam API for the store, prices and reviews?+
Yes: /steam/v1/app returns price, discount and details by country, /steam/v1/search searches the store with its filters, and /steam/v1/reviews returns reviews. Pass a cc country code for local prices.
Can I use the Steam API from Python?+
Yes. Call the routes over HTTP or use the Python SDK, passing an appid and your API.SH key, and read the JSON. There is no Valve key to manage.
