Why API.SH for AniList data
- Public data only: no AniList login, cookies or account needed
- One key and one response shape for AniList and 482 other platforms
- Built and maintained by API.SH, not third-party publishers
- Pay per call; errors on our side cost nothing
- Live status for every endpoint
API.SH vs the official AniList API
Yes. AniList has a free public GraphQL API that needs no key for public data and has a per-minute rate limit; OAuth is needed only for private lists and updates. API.SH wraps the public data in simple REST endpoints with named parameters, accepts MyAnimeList ids, and returns the same JSON shape it uses for other anime and media sites, so you don't write GraphQL queries.
If you would rather not write GraphQL or run your own AniList scraper, API.SH gives you plain REST calls with one key and fixed pricing.
AniList API questions
What AniList data can I get?+
Search (/anilist/v1/search), seasonal anime (/anilist/v1/seasonal), top charts (/anilist/v1/top), one title (/anilist/v1/media), characters and voice actors (/anilist/v1/characters), staff (/anilist/v1/staff), recommendations (/anilist/v1/recommendations), reviews (/anilist/v1/reviews), user profiles (/anilist/v1/user) and user lists (/anilist/v1/user/list).
How much does the AniList API cost?+
Every AniList endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /anilist/v1/characters at 1 credit each.
Is the AniList API free?+
Yes. AniList's official GraphQL API is free for public data within its rate limit. API.SH is a paid, plain REST alternative for people who want simple parameters, MyAnimeList id lookups and the same JSON format across sources.
Do I need an AniList account or token?+
No. API.SH reads public AniList data only. No endpoint uses a login, OAuth token or anyone's account, so private lists are not available.
How do I export data from AniList?+
Call /anilist/v1/user/list with a user name and type (anime or manga) to get every title on a public list with status, score, progress, rewatches, notes and dates, 50 per page, as JSON or CSV.
Can I look up titles by MyAnimeList id?+
Yes. /anilist/v1/media, characters, recommendations and reviews accept mal_id, and every result includes the MyAnimeList id, so you can match the two databases.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /anilist/v1/search with q set to a title, or /anilist/v1/seasonal for this season. Docs are at https://api.sh/docs, with JS and Python SDKs, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n and the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
