The API.SH GLEIF API returns records from the global Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) register as JSON. Search entities by name or text with filters for country, jurisdiction, city, status, category, legal form, BIC or ISIN, then open an LEI for its legal names, addresses, registration status, managing LOU and BIC codes. Ownership data covers direct and ultimate parents with the relationship details, plus direct or ultimate subsidiaries and the ISINs issued under an LEI.

How much does the GLEIF API cost?+

Every GLEIF endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.

Is there a free trial?+

Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /gleif/v1/children at 1 credit each.

Is the official GLEIF API free?+

Yes. GLEIF's own API is free and needs no key. Use it directly if you only need LEI data. API.SH is for teams who want LEI lookups through the same key, SDKs, Sheets, Zapier and MCP tools they use for other data.

Do I need a GLEIF account or API key?+

No. You only need your API.SH key. The LEI register is public data.

What is GLEIF data?+

GLEIF publishes the LEI register: who is who (legal name, addresses, legal form, registration status) and who owns whom (direct and ultimate parents). The API returns both.

Can I search by BIC or ISIN?+

Yes. /gleif/v1/search accepts bic and isin filters, along with name, country, headquarters country, jurisdiction, city, status, category, legal form and registry number.
