API.SH vs the official Xbox API
Microsoft's official Xbox Live APIs (XSAPI and the REST endpoints) are meant for game developers and use Xbox account authentication, and community APIs such as OpenXBL cover player profiles. API.SH covers the public Xbox store instead: games, prices, ratings and Game Pass lists. It returns no gamertags, achievements or friends.
Skip writing your own Xbox store scraper or chasing community Xbox APIs that stop at profiles: API.SH gives you one key and a fixed price per call for store data.
Xbox API questions
What Xbox data can I get?+
Store search with genre, platform, player and price filters (/xbox/v1/search), one game with prices, ratings and editions (/xbox/v1/game) and Game Pass catalogs (/xbox/v1/gamepass).
How much does the Xbox API cost?+
Every Xbox endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /xbox/v1/game at 1 credit each.
Is there an official Xbox API?+
Microsoft documents Xbox services APIs (XSAPI and Xbox Live REST endpoints) for game developers, and they use Xbox account authentication. API.SH covers the public Xbox store instead: games, prices, ratings and Game Pass lists, with no gamertags, achievements or friends.
Do I need an Xbox account or login?+
No. API.SH reads the public Xbox store only. No endpoint uses a login, an Xbox or Microsoft account, or anyone's gamertag.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /xbox/v1/gamepass with list set to recently added, or /xbox/v1/search with q. Request examples and every parameter are in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
Can I get gamertag profiles, achievements or friends?+
No. This API covers the public Xbox store: game details, prices, ratings, search and Game Pass lists. Player profiles, gamerscore, achievements, friends and game clips need an Xbox sign-in, which API.SH does not use.
Can I get the Game Pass game list as JSON?+
Yes. /xbox/v1/gamepass returns a Game Pass list with the total count and full details per game, and you can pick console, PC, EA Play, recently added, coming soon, leaving soon, most popular or cloud. Pass page to move through the list.
