+Natural Hazards API
Earthquakes, disaster alerts and wildfires, storms and volcanoes from USGS, GDACS and NASA EONET in one JSON API.
The API.SH Natural Hazards API brings three public hazard sources under one key. List earthquakes worldwide from the USGS catalogue, minutes after they happen and back to the 1900s, with magnitude, depth, PAGER alert, tsunami flag and felt reports, then open one quake for ShakeMap intensity, PAGER loss estimates and the moment tensor. Add GDACS disaster alerts (earthquakes, tropical cyclones, floods, volcanoes, droughts, wildfires) with green, orange or red alert levels and affected countries, and NASA EONET events tracked from satellite imagery. Filter by dates, magnitude, country or distance from a place or postal code.
- 4 endpoints
- from $1 / 1,000 calls
- 1,000 free credits / month
- failed calls free

Earthquake alerts near a site
Poll recent earthquakes within a radius of an office, plant or postal code, filtered by minimum magnitude, and trigger a check when a PAGER alert or tsunami flag appears.
Impact estimates for one quake
Open a quake by its USGS id for ShakeMap maximum intensity, PAGER fatality and economic-loss estimates and population exposure per intensity level.
Country risk monitoring
Pull GDACS alerts for a country by type and alert level to see which floods, cyclones or droughts reached orange or red, with dates, GLIDE number and report link.
Wildfire and storm tracking
List open NASA EONET wildfires, severe storms and volcanoes near a place, with latest position, magnitude, recent track and sources.
Historic seismic datasets
Page through the USGS catalogue by date range, depth, magnitude or a latitude/longitude box and sort by time or magnitude to build research or insurance datasets.
Hazard answers for AI agents
Give an assistant earthquakes, disaster alerts and natural events through the MCP server so it can answer 'what happened near here this week?' with sourced data.
Natural Hazards data you get
Field names from real responses. Numbers come parsed, URLs absolute, dates in ISO 8601.
Natural Hazards API endpoints and prices
Every Natural Hazards endpoint costs 1 credit per call: credits are $1 per 1,000 on a monthly plan, $2 pay-as-you-go. Pricing
| Natural events (wildfires, storms, volcanoes...) /hazards/ | $1 · $2 PAYG 1 credit |
| Disaster alerts (GDACS) /hazards/ | $1 · $2 PAYG 1 credit |
| Earthquake details /hazards/ | $1 · $2 PAYG 1 credit |

Why API.SH for Natural Hazards data
- Public data only: no Natural Hazards login, cookies or account needed
- One key and one response shape for Natural Hazards and 482 other platforms
- Built and maintained by API.SH, not third-party publishers
- Pay per call; errors on our side cost nothing
- Live status for every endpoint
API.SH vs the official Natural Hazards API
The sources publish their own free APIs: the USGS earthquake feeds and FDSN service need no key, and GDACS and NASA EONET are open too. API.SH joins them behind one key and one JSON shape, adds distance-from-a-place and postal code filters, and keeps the same pagination as every other API.SH endpoint.
Calling USGS GeoJSON feeds directly is free and works well for earthquakes alone; RapidAPI and APIVerve earthquake APIs mostly wrap the same USGS data. API.SH is useful when you also want GDACS alerts and EONET events in the same format, or want to use them from Sheets, Zapier or an AI agent.
Natural Hazards API questions
What natural hazards data can I get?+
Earthquakes worldwide from USGS (/hazards/v1/earthquakes), one earthquake with ShakeMap, PAGER and moment tensor details (/hazards/v1/earthquake), GDACS disaster alerts for earthquakes, cyclones, floods, volcanoes, droughts and wildfires (/hazards/v1/alerts), and NASA EONET natural events such as wildfires, severe storms, volcanoes, floods and dust (/hazards/v1/events).
How much does the earthquake API cost?+
Every Natural Hazards endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free earthquake API?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /hazards/v1/alerts at 1 credit each. The USGS earthquake feeds are also free with no key; API.SH is worth it when you want USGS, GDACS and EONET data in one format with place and radius filters.
Where does the data come from?+
Earthquakes come from the USGS ComCat catalogue (including ShakeMap and PAGER products), disaster alerts from GDACS, run by the European Commission and the UN, and natural events from NASA EONET, which tracks them from satellite imagery.
Do I need keys for the underlying sources?+
No. One API.SH key covers every endpoint on this page. You do not register with USGS, GDACS or NASA or manage their keys, limits or formats.
Is it real time?+
Earthquakes appear in the USGS catalogue minutes after they happen and API.SH reads it on each call. GDACS alerts default to the last 30 days and earthquakes to the last 7 days unless you pass your own dates.
Can I use the earthquake API from Python?+
Yes. Use the Python SDK or any HTTP client: send your key and parameters such as min_magnitude, lat, lon and radius_km to /hazards/v1/earthquakes and read the JSON. Pass next_page back as page for more results.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /hazards/v1/earthquakes with min_magnitude and a place in q or a postal_code. Every parameter and request example is in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp so an AI agent can call it.
