The API.SH Genius API returns metadata from Genius pages. Search songs, artists or albums, open a song for its artists, album, release date, page views, annotation counts, producers, writers, samples and other credits, and list every song of an artist by popularity, title or release date. It also returns albums with track lists, and Genius charts by time period and genre. Lyrics are not returned.

API.SH vs the official Genius API

Genius has an official API with a free client and access token that covers songs, artists, albums, annotations and search, but it does not return lyrics. API.SH needs no client setup or token, returns the same kind of metadata plus charts in the shared JSON format, and does not return lyrics either.

You can use Genius's own API for a single app. API.SH is for when you want Genius next to other sites under one key, without running your own scraper or comparing Apify and RapidAPI actors.

What Genius data can I get?+

Search (/genius/v1/search), a song's metadata (/genius/v1/song), an artist (/genius/v1/artist), an artist's songs (/genius/v1/artist/songs), an album (/genius/v1/album) and charts (/genius/v1/charts).

How much does the Genius API cost?+

Every Genius endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.

Is there a free trial?+

Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /genius/v1/album at 1 credit each.

Is there an official Genius API?+

Yes. Genius offers an API with a free client and access token for song, artist and annotation data. It does not return lyrics. API.SH needs no Genius client or token and returns metadata and charts in one JSON format.

Do I need a Genius account or login?+

No. API.SH reads public Genius pages only. No endpoint uses a login, cookies or anyone's account. You do not need a Genius API client or access token.

Can I get song lyrics from the Genius API?+

No. Neither Genius's API nor API.SH returns lyrics. /genius/v1/song and /genius/v1/search return metadata, credits, counts and links only.

Is the Genius API free, and what are its limits?+

Genius's own API is free with a token. With API.SH every account gets 1,000 free credits every month, and calls are priced per request. Artist songs and search page with next_page passed back as page, 50 songs per page.

How do I get started?+

1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key from the dashboard. 3. Call /genius/v1/search with q set to a song or artist, then pass the id to /genius/v1/song or /genius/v1/artist.
