API.SH vs the official Fandom API
Every Fandom wiki exposes the standard MediaWiki Action API at /api.php, which is free to read and documented by MediaWiki and the Fandom Developers Wiki, but each wiki is queried separately and the raw output needs parsing. API.SH returns infobox fields, sections and counts in one consistent JSON shape.
Instead of writing MediaWiki queries per wiki, using the fandom-py library or running your own crawler, you call one endpoint with a wiki name and get clean JSON at a fixed price per call.
Fandom API questions
What Fandom data can I get?+
Wiki facts and statistics (/fandom/v1/wiki), search (/fandom/v1/search), a page with infobox, sections, categories, images and links (/fandom/v1/page), category members (/fandom/v1/category) and recent changes (/fandom/v1/recent).
How much does the Fandom API cost?+
Every Fandom endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /fandom/v1/category at 1 credit each.
Is there an official Fandom API?+
Yes, in a sense. Every Fandom wiki runs MediaWiki and offers its Action API at /api.php on the wiki's own domain, which is free to read without a key. API.SH is an unofficial layer on top of public pages that adds a simpler, consistent JSON shape.
Do I need a Fandom account or login?+
No. API.SH reads public Fandom wiki pages only. No endpoint uses a login, cookies or anyone's account, and nothing can edit a wiki.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /fandom/v1/page with the wiki and the title of a page. Request examples and every parameter are in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
Can I use the Fandom API from Python?+
Yes. API.SH is a plain HTTPS API that returns JSON, so any HTTP client works, such as requests in Python or fetch in JavaScript. There are also JS and Python SDKs, and the same key works in Google Sheets, Zapier, Make and n8n.
Can I use it for wikis in other languages?+
Yes. The wiki, page, search, category and recent endpoints take a lang parameter for wikis that are not in English.
