+DEV Community API
Read DEV Community (dev.to) articles, comments, tags, users and organizations as clean JSON.
The API.SH DEV Community API turns public dev.to content into structured JSON. List articles by tag, author or organization as the feed, latest, top, fresh or rising, search articles by words, open one article with its reading time, reaction counts, tags and optional full body, and read its whole comment tree. You can also list popular tags and look up user and organization profiles with their GitHub and Twitter handles.

Why API.SH for DEV Community data
- Public data only: no DEV Community login, cookies or account needed
- One key and one response shape for DEV Community and 482 other platforms
- Built and maintained by API.SH, not third-party publishers
- Pay per call; errors on our side cost nothing
- Live status for every endpoint
API.SH vs the official DEV Community API
DEV runs on Forem and has its own public API, documented on dev.to, with API keys for writing and managing your own posts. API.SH is read-only and useful when you want dev.to data in the same JSON shape and with the same key you use for other platforms, without handling DEV keys yourself.
Rather than writing and maintaining your own dev.to scraper from a GitHub template, call API.SH: one key, fixed price per call and tidy JSON for articles, comments and profiles.
DEV Community API questions
What DEV Community data can I get?+
Article lists by tag, author or organization (/devto/v1/articles), article search (/devto/v1/search), one article with optional body and reaction counts (/devto/v1/article), comment trees (/devto/v1/comments), popular tags (/devto/v1/tags), user profiles (/devto/v1/user) and organizations with members (/devto/v1/organization).
How much does the DEV Community API cost?+
Every DEV Community endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /devto/v1/article at 1 credit each.
Is there an official DEV Community API?+
Yes. DEV (dev.to) has a public API with its own documentation, and a DEV API key is needed to create or update posts. API.SH only reads public content and returns it in the same format as every other API.SH platform.
Do I need a DEV account or API key?+
No. API.SH reads public dev.to pages only. You only need your API.SH key; no endpoint uses a DEV login or anyone's account.
Can I get the full article text?+
Yes. Call /devto/v1/article with include=body to get the body as Markdown and HTML. Add include=reactions for the count of each reaction type. Article lists and search return titles and summaries only.
Can I publish posts to dev.to with this API?+
No. API.SH is read-only. To publish, use DEV's own API with your DEV key; use API.SH to read articles, comments, tags and profiles.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /devto/v1/articles with tag=javascript and sort=top. The docs at https://api.sh/docs list every parameter. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
