API.SH vs the official Kraken API
Kraken has an official API with REST, WebSocket and FIX options for market data and trading, and its public market data endpoints need no key while account and trading calls need an API key you create in your account. API.SH covers only public market data, with no Kraken key and no trading, and returns it in the same JSON shape as other platforms.
Use Kraken's own API for trading, account access or streaming; for simple public price, candle and order book pulls next to data from other sites, API.SH gives one key and a fixed price per call.
Kraken API questions
What Kraken data can I get?+
Tickers (/kraken/v1/ticker), OHLC candles (/kraken/v1/ohlc), order books (/kraken/v1/orderbook), recent trades (/kraken/v1/trades) and the list of trading pairs with fees (/kraken/v1/pairs).
How much does the Kraken API cost?+
Every Kraken endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /kraken/v1/ohlc at 1 credit each.
Is there an official Kraken API?+
Yes. Kraken has an official REST, WebSocket and FIX API, with an API key needed for account and trading calls. API.SH is separate and only reads public market data.
Do I need a Kraken account or login?+
No. API.SH reads public Kraken market data only. No endpoint uses a login, an API key from Kraken or anyone's account, and it cannot place orders or see balances.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /kraken/v1/ticker with a pair such as XBTUSD. Request examples and every parameter are in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
Can I place trades or check my balance?+
No. API.SH has no trading or account endpoints. It returns public market data only.
How many candles can I get?+
Kraken keeps the latest 720 candles of each interval. /kraken/v1/ohlc returns them oldest first, and since starts later within that window.
