edX+API.SH

edX API

edX course details, prices, run dates, instructors and topic listings as clean JSON.

The API.SH edX API turns public edx.org pages into structured JSON. Read a course for its schools, subjects, level, description, syllabus, skills, prerequisites, enrollments, rating, price, pacing, instructors and every course run with dates, effort and language, including whether a free audit track is offered and the verified certificate price. List the courses, programs and degrees edX shows on a topic page such as data science or Python.

Why API.SH for edX data

  • Public data only: no edX login, cookies or account needed
  • One key and one response shape for edX and 482 other platforms
  • Built and maintained by API.SH, not third-party publishers
  • Pay per call; errors on our side cost nothing
  • Live status for every endpoint

API.SH vs the official edX API

The edX APIs most search results describe are the Open edX REST APIs: they belong to the open-source platform and need OAuth2 or JWT credentials on an Open edX site you run or have access to. They are not an open catalog API for edx.org. API.SH returns public edx.org course and topic data with one key and no OAuth setup.

Instead of a Python and Selenium edX scraper or an Apify course actor, API.SH gives you one key, a fixed price per call and course data in a fixed JSON shape.

edX API questions

What edX data can I get?+

Full course details with runs, prices, instructors and syllabus (/edx/v1/course), and the courses, programs and degrees listed on a topic page (/edx/v1/topic).

How much does the edX API cost?+

Every edX endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.

Is there a free trial?+

Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /edx/v1/course at 1 credit each.

Is there an official edX API?+

Open edX, the open-source platform behind edX, has REST APIs, but they run on an Open edX site and need OAuth2 or JWT credentials there. They are built for running a platform, not for reading the edx.org catalog. API.SH reads the public edx.org pages instead.

Do I need an edX account or login?+

No. API.SH reads public edx.org pages only. No endpoint uses a login or anyone's learner account.

Can I see whether an edX course is free?+

Yes. /edx/v1/course returns whether a free audit track is offered, the verified certificate price and the price per track for each course run.

Can I get course start dates and enrollment status?+

Yes. The course endpoint returns the current run's start, end and enroll-by dates, the next upcoming run start, whether enrollment is open, and every run with its dates, effort and language.

How do I get started?+

1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key from the dashboard. 3. Call /edx/v1/course with the url of an edX course page. Every parameter and request examples are in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
