Decodes a Vehicle Identification Number (or up to 50, comma-separated) with NHTSA's vPIC database: make, model, model year, trim, series, body class, vehicle type, manufacturer, plant city/state/country, engine (cylinders, displacement, horsepower, model), fuel type, electrification, drive type, transmission, doors, seats, weight class, safety equipment, and every other decoded field (fields), plus check-digit errors and a suggested VIN. Best coverage for vehicles sold in the US.

Every response includes credits_used: the credits this call cost.

Parameters

nametypedescription
vinrequired string 17-character VIN, or several comma-separated (up to 50). Partial VINs with * for unknown positions are accepted. Example: 1HGCM82633A004352
year integer Model year, helps decode pre-1980 and partial VINs.

Every endpoint also takes fresh, raw, fields (see lean responses and caching).

Example

curl "https://api.api.sh/vehicles/v1/vin?vin=1HGCM82633A004352" \
  -H "x-api-key: $APISH_KEY"

Response

A JSON object with the fields described above, plus raw (the source's own data), cached, fetched_at and credits_used. Errors return {"success": false, "error": "…"} with the HTTP status (see errors). A lookup that ran but found nothing (404) costs the price above; refused calls and errors on our side are free (what's charged).

The fastest way to see the full response is the playground: it runs this endpoint with your account and shows the exact JSON.
