EU VAT number check

1 credit / call government & registries try it in the playground →

Check an EU VAT number against the member state's VAT register (VIES): whether it is valid, and the registered name and address where the member state shares them (some, such as Germany, never do). An unknown or invalid number answers valid=false. A member state's register that is temporarily down answers an error that is not charged.

Every response includes credits_used: the credits this call cost.

Parameters

nametypedescription
vatrequired string VAT number with its 2-letter country prefix (EL for Greece, XI for Northern Ireland); spaces and dots are ignored. Example: FR27552032534
country string Country prefix, when vat is given without it.

Every endpoint also takes fresh, raw, fields (see lean responses and caching).

Example

curl "https://api.api.sh/companies/v1/vat?vat=FR27552032534" \
  -H "x-api-key: $APISH_KEY"

Response

A JSON object with the fields described above, plus raw (the source's own data), cached, fetched_at and credits_used. Errors return {"success": false, "error": "…"} with the HTTP status (see errors). A lookup that ran but found nothing (404) costs the price above; refused calls and errors on our side are free (what's charged).

The fastest way to see the full response is the playground: it runs this endpoint with your account and shows the exact JSON.
