Why API.SH for Weibo data
- Public data only: no Weibo login, cookies or account needed
- One key and one response shape for Weibo and 481 other platforms
- Built and maintained by API.SH, not third-party publishers
- Pay per call; errors on our side cost nothing
- Live status for every endpoint
API.SH vs the official Weibo API
Weibo's open platform (open.weibo.com) requires registering an app for an AppKey and AppSecret and using OAuth2, with documentation in Chinese, and its commercial data API is a separate paid service. API.SH needs no Weibo developer account or OAuth and returns public hot lists, posts, comments and profiles as JSON.
Instead of running a Python Weibo crawler from GitHub and keeping it working, use one API.SH key with fixed pricing and the same JSON shape as your other social sources.
Weibo API questions
What Weibo data can I get?+
The hot search list (/weibo/v1/hot-search), hot posts (/weibo/v1/hot-posts), one post (/weibo/v1/post), a post's comments (/weibo/v1/comments), public account profiles (/weibo/v1/user) and an account's posts (/weibo/v1/user/posts).
How much does the Weibo API cost?+
Every Weibo endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /weibo/v1/comments at 1 credit each.
Is there an official Weibo API?+
Yes. Weibo's open platform requires an app registration (AppKey and AppSecret) and OAuth2, and commercial data access is sold separately. API.SH gives you public Weibo data with one key and no Weibo developer account.
Do I need a Weibo account or login?+
No. API.SH reads Weibo as a logged-out visitor sees it. No endpoint uses a login or anyone's account. Because of that, an account's text-only posts, which Weibo shows to signed-in users, are not in /weibo/v1/user/posts.
Can I use it from Python instead of a GitHub Weibo scraper?+
Yes. Use the Python SDK or any HTTP client. You send your key and a post link, uid or name, and get JSON back, with no crawler to maintain.
How does pagination work?+
Comments and account posts return a next_cursor; pass it back as cursor for the next page, and it is null on the last page. Account posts come about 20 a page, newest first.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /weibo/v1/hot-search, or /weibo/v1/user with a uid or name. Docs are at https://api.sh/docs, with JS and Python SDKs, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n and the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
