API.SH vs the official VK API
VK has an official API with hundreds of methods, documented on the VK for Developers portal. It needs an access token from VK ID or OAuth and an app, and every request carries a version parameter. API.SH needs none of that: it returns public community data by id or link in one JSON shape.
Compared with maintaining your own VK scraper or paying for an Apify or Bright Data actor, API.SH gives you a single key, a fixed price per call and a response shape that matches every other site on the platform.
VK API questions
What VK data can I get?+
One endpoint, /vk/v1/community, for a public VK community (group, public page or event): id, screen name, name, type, description, status, member count, verified flag, open or closed, age limit, website, creation date, business and government flags, main address, public contacts, photo, cover and content sections. Personal profiles are not supported.
How much does the VK API cost?+
Every VK endpoint costs 1 credit per call. On a monthly plan 1,000 credits cost $1 (Starter is $50/month for 50,000 credits). Pay-as-you-go is $2 per 1,000 credits, with top-ups from $15 that never expire.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes. Every account gets 1,000 free credits every month. That is 1,000 calls to /vk/v1/community at 1 credit each.
Is there an official VK API?+
Yes. VK publishes an API for developers that requires an access token from VK ID or OAuth. API.SH is separate and unofficial: it reads public community pages and needs no VK app or token.
Do I need a VK account or login?+
No. API.SH reads public VK community pages only. No endpoint uses a login, cookies or anyone's account.
How do I get started?+
1. Sign up at api.sh. 2. Copy your API key. 3. Call /vk/v1/community with the id (for example vk) or the url of a community. Request examples and every parameter are in the docs at https://api.sh/docs. You can also use the JS or Python SDK, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or the MCP server at https://api.sh/mcp.
Can I use the VK API from Python?+
Yes. API.SH is a plain HTTPS API that returns JSON, so any HTTP client works, such as requests in Python or fetch in JavaScript. There are also JS and Python SDKs, and the same key works in Google Sheets, Zapier, Make and n8n.
Can I get VK user profiles or posts?+
Not with this API. The community endpoint covers public groups, public pages and events, and personal profiles are not supported.
